First Day of Half Marathon Training!!

Today is day one of training for the Diva Half Marathon!! I am so excited and I am also wondering what have I gotten myself into??!! I used to be a runner over 20 years ago, since then I have been a smoker and generally just not a healthy person. Four years ago I had my first baby at 36 years old, a boy we named Shane and then 4.5 months ago I gave birth to my second baby, a girl we named Bailey! During my first pregnancy I gained a whopping 70 lbs!! Shane was born in August, two weeks late weighing 9 lbs 3.5 ozs! Over the next 4 years I managed to lose about 52 lbs, then I got pregnant and gained about 45 lbs! Bailey was born a month early and weighed 6 lbs 12 ozs. Both babies were brought into the world via c-section, first one went off without complications. Four days after my second c-section I suffered severe headaches, I couldn't stand up or even take care of my new baby! Turns out I had a spinal leak from the epidural!! P.S. If it ever happens to you drink a lot of caffeine and get plenty of rest, it will heal! Three weeks after that I suffered from a kidney stone!! It was the worst pain I had ever experienced! I had no idea what it was at first, I seriously thought I was dying! As I was lying on my bathroom floor in agony so many thoughts were going through my head: I was hemorrhaging from the c-section, the doctor sewed her watch up in my abdomen, I wish I would've cleaned the bathroom floor, etc...Anyway, one ambulance ride later and lots of drugs, it passes! So, after all that I decided to get healthy for myself and my kids! So, five weeks after Bailey was born I joined a running class at my local running store, The Sound Runner! I couldn't even run for a minute without feeling like I was going to die! 15 weeks later I ran a 5 mile race (in 82 degree weather) and finished in 1 hour 56 seconds!! Now I'm hooked! Labor day I will be running a 5K and in October I will be running a half marathon! Seriosly, if I can do it, anyone can! Because of me running and taking care of myself my husband is also getting in shape, he's lost weight and brought his blood pressure down! My son also wants to run now, I take him for little runs every now and then! If mama's healthy, everyone's healthy! Since having Bailey I've lost the 45 lbs I gained during her pregnancy! Besides the running I've also been doing Weight Watchers, highly recommend it! Now I just need to get rid of those pesky 15 lbs that have been hanging around since my first pregnancy!! I'm going to try to keep this blog going to keep myself honest and help me stick to meeting my goals! If you're in North Branford or New Haven and see me huffing and puffing on the side of the road cheer me on!!
